Mary Alice

Lafayette - It is with the heaviest of hearts and great sadness that the family of Mary Alice “Pochie” Stevens announces her passing on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at LSU Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was 53. Her Home Going Celebration will be held Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Destiny of Faith sanctuary.

Pastor Ken Lazard will be celebrant of the service.

Interment will be in Gethsemane Gardens Cemetery.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories her beloved children, one son, Joseph Marcus (Dana) Chaisson of Lafayette, LA; four daughters, Danyella Chaisson, Tanya (Ralph) Broussard, Crystal and Rochell Broussard of Lafayette, LA; six sisters, Barbara (Dennis) Penn, Lillian Stevens, Natalie (Donovan) Lawrence of Lafayette, LA, Tina (Jordan) Martin of Abbeville, LA, Alicia (Hilbert) Mitchell of New Iberia, LA, Mary Louise Stevens of St. Martinville, LA; five brothers, Johnathan (Shaylonda) Thorn of Carencro, LA, Quincy Thorn of Lafayette, Nathan (Jessica) Thorn of North Glenn, CO, Donald Stevens, Sr. and Mervin Alexis of New Iberia, LA; a lifelong friend, Lester Broussard; one step-father, Herbert Thorn; one step-mother, Silver Stevens; 13 grandchildren; Denise Stevens – the only Godchild and caregiver, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Griffin Stevens, Jr.; mother, Hilda Mae Williams Thorn; her first husband, Joseph Chaisson; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey (Alice Savoy) Williams; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Griffin (Lillian Smith) Stevens, Sr.; one grandson, Mister Delvin Dominic Chaisson; one brother, Griffin Stevens, III; two sisters, Shirley Stevens Martinez and Carolyn Thorn; one aunt, Lilly Mae Carter; two uncles, Clarence Williams, Sr. and Harold Williams.

The family wishes to thank the 5th Floor Oncology team and the staff at LSU Medical Center, OncoLogics staff, Miles Perret, 1st Option Home Health, The Regional Medical Center of Acadiana and to all others who we fail to mention.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Syrie Funeral Home from 7 a.m. until time of service.
